First outing to Isle of Arran ends in disaster (A Naturehike Cloud-Up 2 review)

Initial Thought

Initial opinion was relatively positive, though the front entrance zip was problematic, easily catching the inner fly at the bottom, whilst further up the zip sealant prevented easy zipping. It felt like an accident waiting to happen, suggesting poor design and poor quality control.

Naturehike Cloud-Up 2 Failure

On the fourth day, catastrophic failure occurred whilst away out walking,

the top pole ripped through the outer fabric. Gaffer tape meant it survived the night,

but the tent was pronounced DOA the following morning and so the backpacking holiday was cut short.

It was windy, but our older Wild Country Helm Compact tent managed the gusts with style, whilst the Cloud-Up 2, pitched to the same alignment, failed. Close monitoring of wind direction and adjustment of pitch direction on a minute-by-minute basis may have saved the day, but I was on holiday, and I like to get out now and then.

Moral of the Story Part 1

Buy cheap, buy twice. Avoid, especially if you intend to pitch in a variable windy location and wish to get about.

Moral of the story Part 2

As backpacking, on leaving we placed the tent remains in the bin to cut down on weight, we bought it from Amazon, who we contacted after a 12-hour bus, boat, train, and taxi trip back home, to be told a refund would not be possible as we no longer had the product.

Deal with the devil and you'll get burned!!!!

It's All Gravy

Prior to this, the Isle of Arran delivered in bucketloads, mountains, coastline, fauna, and flora.

I will be back.

Below is a picture of the tent prior to failure.
